Doctor Same is married with three children and three grandchildren. He completed his anaesthesia training in 1983 and gained valuable experience during a year in Sweden before assuming a full-time consultant role at Royal Perth Hospital in 1986. Since 1987, he has been instrumental in establishing and operating the Cardiac Anaesthesia Unit at Mount Hospital, where he has dedicated 37 years to delivering exceptional cardiac and thoracic anaesthesia services. From 1992 to 2020, Doctor Same played a pivotal role on various hospital committees, focusing on enhancing patient care and hospital standards. His leadership extended to chairing the national committee of medical perfusionists in Australia. He is also a published author of a book on managing cardiopulmonary bypass and contributed to the establishment of Australia’s first diploma dedicated to training doctors in heart-lung machine management. Recognizing the impact of prehabilitation and rehabilitation on patient outcomes, Doctor Same initiated and oversees a prehabilitation clinic, collaborating closely with ancillary providers. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in perioperative medicine at Monash University to further his expertise in this field. In 2011, Doctor Same was honoured with the PRIDE of Australia Medal for his exemplary care and compassion in healthcare.
